We have to get this app launched… tomorrow!”
Does this sound familiar?
For the latest project, your company has decided to go to Amazon Web Services. Everyone loves that with AWS you don’t have to guess at capacity before you launch, pay up front for infrastructure or worry about how you’ll expand globally if the app takes off!
One problem… they want to launch tomorrow but you, as the security person, have to make sure it is protected.
You take a look at the requirements and the AWS shared security responsibility model and quickly realize that the normal perimeter controls won’t play in the cloud. You do your research and find the perfect solution, built for the cloud so it won’t interfere with performance or agility but when you take it to purchasing they tell you it will take 3 months to get the vendor approved.
Now everyone is looking to you. And yet again you’re the bad guy, putting the brakes on an important project.
Sadly this isn’t fiction, it is a real story we have heard time and time again. So how do you prevent this horror story from becoming your reality?
The best option to remove procurement obstacles is to turn to cloud marketplaces. For example, the AWS Marketplace has a tremendous set of solutions, all available at a click. Not only does this make it easy to deploy solutions, it also allows you to pay directly on your AWS bill. Goodbye to POs, vendor approvals and dealing with purchasing… and hello to being a security hero!
One catch… until today marketplace models were limited to paying for the management console. This restricted solutions, like Trend Micro Deep Security, from billing per agent that protected EC2 instances. We had to offer appliances that would manage 25/50/100 or 200 agents.
Today we’re happy to announce that AWS has innovated yet again and as you may have seen, Trend Micro is highlighted as a pioneer in a new way to price on the AWS Marketplace. We now charge 1, 3 or 6 cents per hour for each instance protected (price varies based on instance size). The best part is, it is automatic and easy to set up. Now you only pay for what you use… so go ahead and cloud burst and know you are protected.
That’s a game changer.
Now when a team has a new AWS project, you can quickly provide in depth protection, without having to wait for procurement, by buying through the AWS Marketplace. And finally be the hero, not the bad guy!
