The US Presidential Elections is still a year away and yet campaigns, solicitations, and other brouhaha are already in full swing. The same thing can be said with the “VOTE FOR MEs” in cyberspace, what with the presidentiable Web sites and all the other “creative” stuff supporters were able to come up with (there was that “Crush on Obama” video on YouTube, after all).

It doesn’t come as a surprise, therefore, that spammers — or the use of email in general — come into the picture (actually, it was a bit shocking this didn’t come into the picture sooner): the TrendLabs Content Security Team has recently received several samples of email messages campaigning for Texas congressman Ron Paul. Below is a screenshot of one of the messages:

Now, we’re not sure if the said congressman’s party has anything to do with this email. For all we know this is a tactic against him, given the people’s general aversion to unsolicited mail. Or maybe his supporters were just very ecstatic, following his win in a presidential debate last October 21. Whatever the case, this incident, like politics, can get dirty as the elections draw near. Fake solicitation email, malware-carrying fake news… you name it, malware authors and spammers have done it (and will do again) to trick users to do their bidding.

So… vote wisely. Same advise also applies when computing, reading email, and visiting Web sites.
