A technological strategy expert recently announced plans to outline a series of tactics for best adopting cloud computing in government healthcare.
Chris Jackson, chief technology strategist for JET Heath Solutions, outlined some of the key factors he plans to incorporate into forthcoming strategy suggestions for government healthcare IT solutions.
The U.S. federal government has, since last year, been implementing a "cloud first" policy that calls for all government branches and agencies to begin migrating applications and services to the cloud.
According to Jackson, agencies looking to adopt new cloud solutions should explore the framework thoroughly before making any serious investments in the technology. JET Health Solutions called for a "cohesive decision framework" as a necessary precursor to a "seamless cloud migration."
The government's decision to migrate its agencies' IT infrastructure to the cloud "is a great opportunity to highlight the infrastructure that needs to be set before cloud migration is deployed," Jackson said.
According to the company, Jackson's future presentations will focus on "how to stratify your custom application portfolio into prioritized candidate groups, based on a scoring strategy using the attributes and characteristics that make some applications better to virtualize, re-platform, port, re-develop or replace."
The purpose of his strategic suggestions is to demonstrate "how to create a balanced roadmap for application modernization that accounts for budget, staff skills, available platforms and manages transition risk," the company announced.
The federal government first announced its "cloud first" policy in December. In addition to calling for agencies to begin migration to the cloud in the near future, the policy requires that cloud-based solutions become the default choice for government IT beginning in 2012, so long as adequate cloud computing security is achievable.
