As with any comparative analysis, the latest Breach Detection System (BDS) tests by NSS Labs, are about far more than the results, detection rates and total cost of ownership (TCO) numbers. Participating in a transparent and open evaluation provides existing customers, partners and prospects, as well as industry and financial analysts, with impartial information.

In short, the latest NSS Labs BDS test reveals:

  • Effectiveness of R&D investment and the capacity of a security provider to address targeted attacks and advanced threats.
  • Actual solution performance, as opposed to hollow claims and hyperbole from well-financed marketing machines.
  • Total cost of ownership and long-term value.

Quite simply, examinations such as the NSS Labs BDS test provides a ‘peek behind the curtain’ to enable better decision making. Anyone seeking to procure a breach detection system can utilize this insight to shape their opinions and develop strategies to address the challenge of targeted attacks.

Most would agree it has become obvious that targeted attacks and advanced threats can’t be resolved with a proverbial silver bullet.  In light of this reality, the best course of action is to evaluate then select solutions based on what is happening within your network.

Case in point: performing well in industry tests such as NSS Labs is an important indicator of detection efficacy and solution value. But, when shortlisting a provider to deliver this protection, it’s critical to understand context. Meaning, the NSS labs test is a snapshot of a point in time, and dependent on the types of advanced malware and attack methods curated along with the methodology of the test. Because of this, we are pleased that NSS Labs has provided an open and transparent process based on attack samples collected from the wild, and not readily identified by traditional or current anti-virus technologies.

As the saying goes, “a rising tide raises all ships.” Likewise, Trend Micro and its customers have benefitted from this analysis and the insight offered. I suspect the same can be said for all of the test participants and their stakeholders as well.  Most importantly, we’re proud that for the second year in a row Trend Micro has received a “recommended” rating and is the highest overall recommended breach detection system from NSS Labs, making it the most effective solution available.

Our customer commitment to provide solutions that consistently deliver exceptional and reliable performance is behind everything we do. The results of the NSS Labs BDS test validate that we are fulfilling this obligation, and our entire team takes tremendous pride in the outcome.
