A number of years ago Trend Micro worked with the security testing industry to change how security products are tested in an effort to develop methodologies that are more in line with real-world scenarios. This effort was successful with many of the key global labs such as AV-Comparatives, AV-Test, NSS Labs, and others who are now offering real-world tests that can give a user an improved view of the efficacy of endpoint security solutions. Besides a new methodology that collects and introduces new threats from the Internet either shortly before or during the test itself, some labs like NSS Labs have also included a time-to-protect factor into the test. Time-to-protect identifies how quickly a solution is able to collect, identify and protect against new threats that are missed in earlier runs of the test. Both of these testing components give the user a very good idea of which organizations have a closed-looped process within their solutions to manage new threats as quickly as possible. The below diagram shows where the labs are now allowing protection from new threats to be identified. The exposure layer is the new area in which security vendors have the opportunity to block a new threat at its source, as opposed to waiting for the threat to be detected at the infection layer.
Trend Micro has been investing millions of dollars to enhance and improve our global threat intelligence, which is derived from our Smart Protection Network infrastructure, which incorporates a global feedback sensornet that collects new threats, big data analytics to quickly identify and correlate all aspects of a new threat or attack, and a cloud-based protection network that immediately protects our customers, regardless of when, where, and how they connect to the Internet.
Proof of our investment is regularly checked through both internal benchmark testing, but also supporting many 3rd party testing labs that rigorously test all the different aspects of security by introduces different types of threats against our endpoint solutions. From malicious website, malware, phishing, exploits, spam, and other threats are regularly tested to determine how well our solutions protect customers from the latest threats being used by the cybercriminals.
No one test can give you an accurate look at how well a solution protects against the new threats and as such, we recommend you check out the ability of a solution to protect against new threats over time. We also recommend you look at any test results that showcase the time-to-protect factor to identify those organizations who have built a robust and efficient security infrastructure that can collect, identify, and protect against new threats.
Below are a number of test results obtained by Trend Micro Titanium from numerous 3rd party labs. We think you can see that Trend Micro is consistently in the top tier of vendors who protect well against the myriad of threats today, but also Trend Micro is the fastest solution in the time-to-protect component of tests that include this.
Many of these tests are included in our Competitive Benchmark webpages on our website.
