Have you ever waited until the last minute to get something done, even if you had months to do it? Yes, me too. You would think I’d stop the madness, but no…at times, I oddly enjoy working in full deadline-induced panic mode. If you’ve ever seen the 1987 movie “Broadcast News,” you know what I’m talking about. Holly Hunter’s character Jane wants to add a photograph of Norman Rockwell’s “Coming Home” at the end of a report that will be running live in minutes. A few mishaps follow and the person who has to deliver the tape to the main control room ends up running into people, a water fountain – you name it. The person ends up running up the stairs with a limp to deliver the tape in the nick of time.
Mozilla, however, did not wait until the last minute to patch a vulnerability found at our recent Pwn2Own contest in Vancouver. While the Zero Day Initiative gives vendors four months to patch a vulnerability that comes through the program, Mozilla patched the vulnerability in under 24 hours! What makes this feat even more significant is the fact that the vulnerability found wasn’t even in their code base. Kudos to Mozilla for a job well done! For the details on the vulnerability and how Mozilla patched it, you can read Vincent Lee’s full blog “Quickly Pwned, Quickly Patched: Details of the Mozilla Pwn2Own Exploit” here.
Reminder: Planned Maintenance Window
The Trend Micro TippingPoint Threat Management Center (TMC) web site (https://tmc.tippingpoint.com) will be undergoing maintenance on the following date and time:
Date | From | To |
Sunday, April 8, 2018 | 9:00AM (CDT) | 10:00AM (CDT) |
2:00PM (UTC) | 3:00PM (UTC) |
During the maintenance window, the Security Management System (SMS), Intrusion Prevention System (IPS), Next Generation Firewall (NGFW) and Threat Protection System (TPS) connectivity to the TMC will be disrupted, thus preventing the Digital Vaccine (DV), Threat Digital Vaccine (ThreatDV), Reputation Security Monitor (RepSM) and TippingPoint Operating System (TOS) updates from occurring. Customers with any questions or concerns can contact the TippingPoint Technical Assistance Center.
Zero-Day Filters
There are 10 new zero-day filters covering eight vendors in this week’s Digital Vaccine (DV) package. A number of existing filters in this week’s DV package were modified to update the filter description, update specific filter deployment recommendation, increase filter accuracy and/or optimize performance. You can browse the list of published advisories and upcoming advisories on the Zero Day Initiative website. You can also follow the Zero Day Initiative on Twitter @thezdi and on their blog.
