I participated in the process of jury duty earlier this week. The process to answer an official summons varies by state, but one thing is for sure: if you do not show up, you are subject to fines and even jailed for being in contempt of court. I was able to respond online and indicate dates I couldn’t report due to travel or other scheduling conflicts. In the end, I wasn’t selected and I was able to go home in the afternoon.
2016 has been the year of threats focused on extortion like ransomware, and jury duty is not immune. Earlier this year, The United States Courts issued an alert about court scams affecting citizens across the country. Individuals are posing as federal court officials and U.S. Marshals and calling citizens with threats of jail unless they pay. These scams are so aggressive that “scammers are setting up call centers, establishing call-back protocols and using specific names and designated court hearing times.” More scams are popping up as of late due to the fact that the holidays are coming and typically, people have more money to spend. People who receive these calls should avoid providing any requested information, hang up and contact their local authorities.
NEW DATE ADDED: TippingPoint Threat Management Center Planned Maintenance Window
The Trend Micro TippingPoint Threat Management Center (TMC) website (https://tmc.tippingpoint.com/TMC) will be undergoing maintenance on the following dates and times.
|Friday, December 2, 2016||5:00 PM (CST)||6:00 PM (CST)|
|Friday, December 2, 2026||11:00 PM (UTC)||12:00 AM (UTC)|
During the maintenance window, the Security Management System (SMS), Intrusion Prevention System (IPS), Threat Protection System (TPS), Next Generation Firewall (NGFW), and ArcSight Enterprise Security Manager (ESM) connectivity to the TMC may be intermittently disrupted, thus preventing Digital Vaccine (DV), Threat Digital Vaccine (ThreatDV), Reputation Security Monitor (RepSM) and TippingPoint Operating System (TOS) updates from occurring. Customers with any questions or concerns can contact the TippingPoint Technical Assistance Center (TAC).
We did not have any new zero-day filters in this week’s Digital Vaccine (DV) package. A number of existing filters in this week’s DV package were modified to update the filter description, update specific filter deployment recommendation, increase filter accuracy and/or optimize performance. You can browse the list of published advisories and upcoming advisories on the Zero Day Initiative website.
